Fourth Annual Amy Kane Memorial Award

Fourth Annual Amy Kane Memorial Award

Chicago
April 14, 2026

The Fourth Annual Amy Kane Memorial Award ceremony marked a special and meaningful gathering at Hall Prangle, where colleagues came together to honor the legacy of Amy Kane and celebrate Sabina Babel as this year’s distinguished recipient. As part of the award, Sabina received a monetary stipend to support her continued professional development, refine her trial skills, and further her commitment to mentorship and leadership within the legal community.

Established in memory of Amy Kane, an esteemed Equity Partner who passed away in March 2022, the award reflects her enduring legacy of excellence in practice and her defining qualities of kindness, empathy, and generosity of spirit. Amy set an extraordinarily high bar, not only as a fierce and talented advocate for her clients, but also as a dedicated mentor, leader, and trusted colleague who cared deeply about the success of those around her and the firm as a whole. Each year, the award recognizes an attorney who embodies those same qualities and demonstrates a commitment to continued growth in the legal profession.

Selected based on peer nominations, the recipient is someone who exemplifies excellence in advocacy while remaining a collaborative, client-centered team player. Like Amy, the honoree is someone who values mentorship, professional development, and the ongoing pursuit of becoming a formidable trial attorney. The firm was also honored to be joined by members of the Kane family at this year’s ceremony, continuing a tradition that makes the occasion especially meaningful and serves as a reminder of Amy’s lasting impact.

Marilee Clausing, a Partner who worked closely with both Amy and Sabina, reflected on their shared qualities: “Sabina has so many of the same qualities for which Amy was known—strong trial skills and excellence as an attorney, tempered by kindness and a generosity of spirit—which made her the perfect choice for this award. Amy would be proud to see Sabina walking in her footsteps.”

Sabina concentrates her practice on the defense of hospitals, medical professionals, and other healthcare providers against claims of medical negligence and premises liability. She has extensive experience handling complex litigation matters, including traumatic birth injury, pediatrics, and failure-to-diagnose cases, many of which involve catastrophic injuries and neurological complications. Sabina has been involved in all phases of litigation, from pre-suit investigation through post-trial motions and appeals, and has served as both first- and second-chair in numerous trials to verdict.

Hall Prangle Partner Michele Anderson emphasized the strong parallels between Amy and Sabina, highlighting their shared excellence, compassion, and dedication to client service. She noted, “Sabina brings so many of the same qualities that made Amy so special, combining sharp intellect with genuine compassion and care for her clients. We are proud to call Sabina our partner.”

Reflecting on the recognition, Sabina shared, “I am truly honored that my colleagues see in me the same characteristics that made Amy such an amazing person, attorney, and mentor. Amy was not just my partner, but she was also my friend, and I am fortunate to have known her.”

Each year, this ceremony serves as both a celebration of an outstanding attorney and a moment to reflect on Amy’s lasting influence. Hall Prangle is proud to continue honoring her legacy through this award and congratulates Sabina Babel on this well-deserved recognition. Her dedication to excellence, advocacy, and mentorship truly reflects the spirit of the Amy Kane Memorial Award.
