BIOGRAPHY
Sapna Lalmalani is a trial lawyer who concentrates her practice in the area of healthcare litigation and professional liability, where she defends all types of healthcare facilities and healthcare practitioners in cases involving medical negligence, premises liability, and products liability. Sapna represents hospitals, physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, pharmacists, emergency medical providers, and other healthcare providers in complex litigation matters that often involve catastrophic injuries. She also has experience in long-term care litigation, commercial litigation, and transportation defense.
Sapna handles all aspects of litigation, starting with pre-suit investigations and continuing through trial. She has first and second-chaired numerous trials to verdict and has extensive experience conducting discovery, alternative dispute resolution, and assessing clients’ potential liability and exposure in complicated cases. In addition to her experience in discovery and trial, Sapna has a thorough knowledge of the law and understands the value of motion practice, which has led to her securing favorable results for her clients in multiple cases prior to trial, including through summary judgment. With her attention to detail, diligent work ethic, and experience, Sapna is a strong advocate for her clients and is focused on serving their best interests during the course of each matter she handles.
Sapna started her career at Jenner & Block, there defending attorneys in legal malpractice actions and handling complex commercial litigation. She also spent significant time on pro bono matters defending three Guantanamo prisoners, including in a habeas corpus hearing in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Sapna then chose to move to one of the prominent medical malpractice defense firms in Chicago, as she knew she wanted to spend more time in the courtroom trying cases. She joined Hall Prangle in 2015 and was promoted to partner in 2016. In her time at Hall Prangle, Sapna has established herself as a leader and mentor, devoting time to training new associates and educating all attorneys on various aspects of litigation.
Sapna’s reputation as a lawyer extends into the legal community. She has been recognized by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin as a Leading Lawyer every year since 2015, a distinction earned by fewer than 5% of all lawyers licensed to practice in Illinois. Sapna was also named an Illinois Super Lawyer “Rising Star” for six consecutive years (2012-2017) and graduated to the “Super Lawyer” distinction in 2023 and 2024. In 2019, Sapna was recognized as one of the “Forty Under 40” Illinois Attorneys to Watch by Law Bulletin Publishing Company, publishers of Chicago Lawyer magazine and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin (CDLB). The list is the result of an annual survey conducted to determine who are the “most talented young attorneys practicing in Illinois.” Sapna was also recognized by Law Bulletin in 2024 as an honoree for the 5th Women in Law: Leaders Leaning In Award. Additionally, in 2020, Diversity MBA Magazine named Sapna one of the “Top 100 Under 50 Executive and Emerging Leaders,” a recognition awarded based on nomination and based on Diversity MBA’s determination of those individuals who have made outstanding achievements in community, leadership, and education.
